closing the loop, a continually harvestable vermiculture box.

This box will turn our food scraps into high quality protein for our aquaculture project and fertilizer for the gardens.

  1. Very nice idea. Are those nylon ropes that you used? How did you "attach" them to the box? And how far are the ropes from one another? Won't unfinished material fall through as well?

Let me know how that works. I might try that with one of my new worm bins.

  2. Hello,
I got the plans from a berkeley based organization called:
    Vermitopia-
    http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~compost/plywood_guide.html
The ropes are about 1.5 inches from each other, and are covered with cardboard and newspaper bedding.
In theory the bedding will be decomposed by the time the castings are created, and the worms have moved higher in the box. The castings then fall through the ropes and can be harvested from the bottom.

  3. How's it going so far? Is it going according to plan?
